Who is eligible to refer?

  • Only employees funded by UCSD Medical Center are eligible to participate (i.e., more than half (50%) of your position’s funding must be provided by UCSD Medical Center.)
  • All UCSD Medical Center employees are eligible to participate with the exception of: members of the UCSD Medical Center HR Recruitment staff, and members of the MSP and SMG personnel programs.

Who can be referred?

  • Former employees of UCSD Medical Center are eligible to be referred if they have been separated from the Medical Center for more than twelve (12) months.
  • All referrals must meet the minimum qualifications for the position posted.
  • Only vacant career positions within the designated titles qualify for the full referral bonus.
  • Both the referring employee and the referral must be employed by UCSD Medical Center at the time the payment or award is distributed.
  • Employees who are converting to a Career position from a Per Diem, Limited, Agency, or Traveler status do not qualify as referrals for the program.
  • It is important that employees of UCSD Medical Center who refer a candidate be sure to not make any promises or commitments on behalf of the Medical Center.
  • All recruitment information on referring employees and referrals is considered confidential and will be treated as such by Human Resources.

How do I refer someone?

  • In order to qualify, all referrals must be submitted online at http://www.ucsdmedicalcenterjobs.com/jobs_erp.php.
  • Employee Referrals must be submitted online before the referral is interviewed or hired.
  • If two or more employees submit a referral for the same candidate, credit will be given to the first employee who submitted the referral online.

How are referral bonuses paid?

  • Employees submitting referrals for key positions:
    • Clinical Nurses
    • Pharmacists
    • Licensed Lab Professionals
    • Rehab Professionals and Techs
  • are eligible for a $1,000 bonus with $500 paid after the new employee completes 90 days of satisfactory employment and $500 paid after the new employee completes one year of satisfactory employment.
  • In order to be eligible to receive the referral payments, the referring employee and the referral must be employed with UCSD Medical Center at the time of payment.
  • The referral bonuses will be paid through employee payroll (regular bi-weekly paychecks) and are subject to all applicable deductions and taxes. Referral bonuses are reported as income on your year-end tax documents.

General Program Information

  • This Employee Referral Program will be in effect from July 1, 2007 to June 30, 2008
  • Any referrals documented before July 1, 2007, will not qualify for the 2007-08 program.
  • Changes to the Employee Referral Program can be made at the sole discretion of UCSD Medical Center with 30 days notice. The organization’s profitability for a given fiscal year will determine the amount available for the implementation and continuation of all referral programs.
  • Participation and parameters for the Employee Referral Program are established at the sole discretion of UCSD Medical Center. Exclusively represented employees may require bargaining unit approval in order to participate in the Employee Referral Program.
